A Couple of Crappy, not-so-Crappy, Hats

The more I do this crochet thing, the more I realize I have a thousand and one things to learn before I can say I really crochet. Until then, I cling to my video tutorials and pinterest inspirations while undoing and redoing hundreds of stitches.

Here's my latest and greatest.

I decided I wanted to make a beanie. Beanies, a most basic, arguably essential, skill in any crocheters arsenal. I made a few slouchy hats before, and I'll post them later, but that whole nasty, 'crocheting in the round' nonsense just scared me.

I decided a couple of days ago that it was going to happen.

Here's the result of the first attempt.
The front, not so bad!

As you can see, I was even able to b.s. my way around adding a stripe! I still don't even know how that happened, but I made it work!

But then the dark, ugly secret:

Oh, the humanity.

So I didn't really *grasp* that whole circle thing too well. Ok. I guess this blew. That ugly, uneven seam, the giant holes, awful.

But I liked the colors and the rest of the hat, so challenge # 4 now faced me head on. A flower. I youtubed a few more videos and after another few hours of struggle-
Giant Flower Hat.

Tada!

Then the next day, i went back and tried all of these things again. I'm happy to report after a second attempt, I was able to successfully make the hat, SANS ugly seam and gaping holes, and I did the flower from memory.

Squee! Ermergerd, erts er flerer hert!
